Finally shutting down a never to be forgotton "Spirit Of `79".....

The dust has settled and hopefully everybody got home to where they came from. "The Spirit Of `79" with Squire & The Killermeters was an astounding success and all the worries we had for the past year or so were totally unfounded, as the event actually sold out twice making our minds go round in circles.....

We would like to thank all that came individually but with the 300 plus people attending it would take another year just to do that. Saying that, Gel and myself would like to thank all that took the effort to make this event one to remember for years to come. So thanks to all the people that came from all parts of the UK including up North and even Hull, those from Bristol, Colchester, Brighton, London and outskirts, those from the West, The East and The South. Thanks to the Guernsey lot, The Danish lot and even those from France and the USA. Last but not least thanks for the support of the local and surrounding area faithful. There are many others we could and should really mention but you all mean the same and you all make these events so successful. Young and not so young, we salute you all.

For some reason every band that comes to play in Crawley seems to give a little bit more than normal, this was the same with The Killermeters and Squire who both gave amazing performances which still keep my hair on end thinking about them. So to all in Squire and The Killermeters you did us proud and yourselves even prouder. We would also like to thank the Dj`s Carl Skalistic, Gary Crickmore, Peter Markham (Von Markham) and yours truely for keeping the sounds coming from start to end as well as keeping the dance floor rocking after the bands. A special thanks to Phil the sound man that kept everything on track all night and with his apprentice Adam Davison nothing could or would go wrong. As always the bar staff and everyone one connected with Goffs Park Social Club did themselves proud. Thanks to Peter Markham for yet another blindin` flyer, Paul Carr for printing the flyers and tickets and thanks to Adam for being on the door and for Alan May (Glory Boy Radio) and Robert S. Lee (Mods Mayday fame) for introducing the bands. Without selling tickets there would be no event so a special thanks goes to Defiance Scooter Club sellers Mark Packham, Debbie Vail Bowen and Gary Smith with a very special thanks going to Cheryl Muggeridge and Darren Scopes, you are so much appreciated.....

To end, I personally would like to say a big thanks to Gel. We`ve been "Thick As Thieves" for well over 35 years and happy 50th on the 17th november mate. He is the main man behind these events and not any other Tom, Dick or Harry or even the man and his dog (or even fish) down the road. The booking and planning of these events are basically down to Gel with me as his stubborn right hand man helping in anyway I can including promoting and annoying everybody I can annoy, ha.

So Roman this is the last post for this event ;-)
