Sit back in your comfy chair, relax, have a good cup of coffee and soak op the knowledge and stories your favourite music heroes and heroines have to tell. The lick is the interview series that Zero2jazz founder and presenter Florian James always wanted to see, but could never find. More a conversation than an interview, Florian talks at length with both well-established and fresh young music talents, looking for lessons to learn and fun to share.

In this episode Florian talks with Dutch Jazz singer Anne Chris.

'Play for now' is the profound title of the second CD that the Amsterdam singer Anne Chris released January, 2010. 'Play For Now'; loosely translated means it's the now that matters and you should grab it. The CD ended up exactly how Anne Chris intended it: a soulful, organic mix of acoustic and electronic elements & programmed beats, ïnspired by artists like Stevie Wonder and Beady Belle.
Flower Girl

The mainly autobiographical texts deal with growth and progress, but also with saying goodbye. With a backpack filled with experience Anne Chris took the time to record 'Play For Now'. She started her singing career in 2003 with a performance at the North Sea Jazz festival. One can hardly imagine a better debut! A year later Anne Chris released her debut CD 'Tomorrow Is Today', followed by a.o. a second performance at the North Sea Jazz Festival (2005). As the musical omnivore she is, in that same year Anne Chris made a tour through Morocco with guitar player Jan Wouter Oostenrijk. With her own band Anne Chris toured Dutch theatres in the season 2007-2008, including the Concertgebouw. Other highlights on her CV are several performances with Youp van 't Hek, including a series in the Theatre Carré. Playing the role of flower girl Anne Chris dueled vocally with Van 't Hek in 'De Schreeuwstorm'. She thinks back to this as a very instructive and unique experience!
Play for Now

For the recording of 'Play For Now' Anne Chris mobilized from her friends a select choice of Dutch top musicians. One of them is Tineke Postma, who succeeded in freeing up her international agenda to add her unique sound to two tracks! Anne Chris wrote all ten songs on 'Play For Now' herself. The American singer Léah Kline provided advice with the texts. The collaboration was so inspiring that they ended up writing two songs together. Bass player Cord Heineking produced the album and his musical vision contributed significantly to many of the tracks, through the sound mixing and his arrangements.
