"The Wisconsin troubadour has a penchant for playfulness when it comes to her music; however, when she gets serious, few craft a better folk song." - The Huffington Post
Anna Vogelzang is proud to announce the release of Canary In A Coal Mine. The new album from the Madison, WI based musician will be released on February 28th 2012 via Paper Anchor Music.
In recording Canary In A Coal Mine, Vogelzang enlisted the help of a wide cast of professional players including Franz Nicolay on accordion (former Hold Steady), Brian Viglione on drums (Dresden Dolls), Todd Sickafoose on upright bass (Righteous Babe/Ani DiFranco) and Emily Hope Price on cello (Pearl & the Beard). In the studio she teamed with producer James Frazee (Blondie, Betty LaVette) to create a shimmering and fully crafted folk pop landscape accented with flowing strings, plucky banjos, and Vogelzang's warm and inviting full-throated vocals filling and floating above the spaces in between.
A Boston area native, Anna Vogelzang recently transplanted herself to the mid-west, landing in Madison, WI where she's embraced the local music community, even taking a teaching role as an instructor in the Madison area Girls Rock Camp. The past few years have seen her on the road, self-booking tours with a determined approach that has landed her on the same stage as Mirah, Franz Nicolay, Wye Oak, Amanda Palmer, Kyp Malone (TV On The Radio), Nat Baldwin (Dirty Projectors) and many others. At times she has lent her own talent to other musicians, notably as a touring vocalist with The Dresden Dolls.

"Her voice will blanket you with awe. Do whatever you can to see her live." - The Deli Magazine
"Pittsburgh's indie-folk scene said goodbye to one of its brightest singer-songwriters when Anna Vogelzang took off for Chicago." - Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
"Anna Vogelzang is one of the promising young female artists who puts her money where her mouth is. This girl won't stop until she gets the attention she deserves, and believe me, she deserves it." – Amanda Palmer, The Dresden Dolls
"Combine sweet, early-jazz warbling, classic female singer-songwriter acoustics, girl-with-a-guitar aesthetics, and indie-folk quirk (imagine Kimya Dawson if she could really sing) with a dash of slightly angsty girl-rock (Ani DiFranco if she'd mellow out), and you'll have an inkling of the unique style cultivated by vocalist Anna Vogelzang." - Brick Weekly, Richmond, VA
