Angie Chirino

Angie Chirino was born into music. From a very young age she was exposed to all kinds of music from the Beatles to Celia Cruz and everything in between. Angie is the daughter of Grammy award winning, salsa singer/bandleader Willy Chirino and ever since she was 7, she would beg her dad to let her come up on stage at his shows so she could sing. She also started showing early promise as a songwriter when she wrote her first song at the age of eleven. A song written for her newly born baby sister "Nicolle". After that the songs kept coming. She started singing with her own band at the age of 15 at teen clubs all over Miami and at 19 began performing as a backup singer for some of the biggest names in Latin Music. It was only after working with greats like El Puma, Rafael, Lucia Mendez, and Angela Carrasco that her father offered her a spot in his band and there she remained with his band for the next 4 years. She also continued to sing on recordings for everyone under the sun and soon these artists started recording her songs. Artists like Carlos Vives, Gloria Estefan, Alejandro Fernandez. Paulina Rubio, Thalia, Marc Anthony and the late great Celia Cruz. She had several Billboard hits including three 1's and in 2000, she went on to win the prestigious OTI International Song award and the first ever awarded "Song of the Year" Latin Grammy for her participation on the song "Dimelo" recorded by Marc Anthony. One of her crowning achievements was when the legendary Celia Cruz recerded her song "Por Si Acaso No Regreso" and she got to work with her in the studio. As Angie remembers "I had to lock myself up in the bathroom because I was so overwhelmed by the emotion that I couldn't stop welling up with tears thinking about how even when my dad was a little kid in Cuba, Celia Cruz was already already a huge star, and here she is now, singing my song, it was heavy!
