ANE BRUN has confirmed the release of a new single, 'This Voice 2013', taken from her forthcoming compilation, Songs 2003-2013, which draws upon the work she's released since her debut album, Spending Time With Morgan. The single is released on May 13, 2013, by Brun's Balloon Ranger Recordings, and will be available both digitally and via all good streaming media. Songs 2003-2013 will be released on May 27, 2013, as a 2CD set or digital download, as well as via streaming services.

'This Voice 2013' is a new version of a track from Brun's 2005 album, A Temporary Dive. Inspired by the manner in which the formerly gentle nature of the song had been reworked for live performances, Brun brought her band down to the studio during the recording of her last, acclaimed album, 2011's It All Starts With One, to capture the spirit of live shows. "I've been playing it live with double drum sets and a totally different vibe," she explains. "It's been a favourite moment of my shows both for me and the audience, and I really wanted to record it." What emerged is a stunning, Eastern-tinged adaption of a song whose atmosphere is dramatically transformed, yet another example of Brun's constant desire to reinterpret both her own work and that of others.

In keeping with that theme, 'This Voice 2013' is backed with a cover of 'Feeling Good', the Newley/Bricusse classic made most famous by Nina Simone. The song was also often sung by Brun's mother, a jazz singer and pianist in her own right, and is here recast as an acoustic sigh of pastoral optimism. "I started singing this tune at home one night," she recalls of her decision to take on the song, "after having seen a young kid on Youtube performing it, but in the more classic powerful way, closer to how Nina Simone did it. I figured out some simple chords on the guitar and, more or less for fun, made my own version of it. It turned out pretty mellow and good, and I decided to record it in a studio. It feels like a perfect introduction to whatever is coming up next."

Both Brun's cover of 'Feeling Good', and this new arrangement for one of her own songs, sit perfectly alongside her previous, innovative interpretations of other people's work, a talent for which Brun has become increasingly known. These include Cyndi Lauper's 'True Colors', PJ Harvey's 'The Dancer' and Alphaville's 'Big In Japan', all of which are included on Songs 2003-2013.

To celebrate the release of Songs 2003-2013, Ane Brun will head out on the road to plays shows as follows throughout the rest of the year as follows:
