DESCRIPTION:
Larry "Gimmer" Nicholson may not be well-known outside of Memphis but he was one of the finest guitarists in a town full of musical giants. During this tribute concert at the Overton Park Shell in 2001, Jim Dickinson remembered performing with Gimmer as a duo at coffee houses in the 60s and also in a touring band with Ry Cooder that opened for and backed Arlo Guthrie in1971. This historic Memphis amphitheater was fully renovated in 2008 thanks to a generous grant from the Mortimer Levitt Foundation and the renamed Levitt Shell now sponsors 50 free concerts every year devoted to developing community through the performing arts.
