Yo Zushi - "Song from a Dazzling Drift" - Video
PUBLISHED:  Feb 20, 2013
DESCRIPTION:
Another tune from the archives... "Song from a Dazzling Drift" is from my second album, "Notes for 'Holy Larceny'", released by Pointy Records in 2007. I came up with this one just before the release of my first CD, which is confusingly called "Songs from a Dazzling Drift", despite not including the song that gave it its name. The "dazzling drift" image came from some poem by this guy Robert Browning. One of the weirdest things at my parents' house is this replica metal cast of Browning and his wife's hands. Looks really deathly.

Around the time of this song's release, we supported Micah P Hinson, Scritti Politti, Patrick Wolf, etc. Critics said:

"A raw... intriguing talent" -- Steve Lamacq, BBC Radio 2

"All the credentials to be the under-sung musical hero that we just don't get any more... Excellent" -- *****, Amelia's Magazine

"Lucid tales of alcohol-fuzzled intrigue and mishap... Melodies soaked in a warm melancholia" -- Metro

Q Magazine only gave it three stars out of five this time but compared me to "a Richard Hawley with knowing winks", whatever that means.

"Sweet melodies that entice you back... A taste of something different" -- Maverick

"Diversity and newness throughout... Haunting" -- Comes with a Smile

"Dreamy and beautiful... Versatile yet intense... Yo Zushi's campfire tales are at once wistful and uplifting, and this talented songwriter's fire looks set to continue burning" -- **** and a half, Subba Culture

"One of the most interesting albums of 2007... A world of acoustic music coffee bars, late night semi-drunken musings and the deeper darker edges of folk is explored and discovered" -- Americana UK

I wrote the song. It was recorded by Greg Box at his mum's (I miss sitting about in that living room). Antonio "Pops" Papaleo on drums, Ross Palmer on bass and guitar, me (Yo Zushi) on guitar/vocals.
