The Tuvans or Tuvinians (Turkish: Tuvalar; Mongolian: Tuva Uriankhai) are a Turkic ethnic group living in southern Siberia. Tuvan throat singing is one particular variant of overtone singing practiced by the Tuva people of southern Siberia. In Turkic and Mongolic languages, the name, Altai, means the "Golden Mountain. This mountain is holy for Mongols and Turkics people. Altai (also Altay) is a language of the Turkic group of languages. It is an official language of Altai Republic, Russia. The Tuvan people - along with the Yellow Uyghur Turks in China and Turkey - are one of the only two Turkic groups who are mainly adherents to Buddhism, combined with native shamanism.
