Pop history abounds with examples proving that odd couples can produce surprising and yet durable music.
Alice Sings The Petterson Songbook is, in a nutshell, the product of the warm blooded performances of singer Alice Carreri and the cool-headedness of songwriter/arranger Mikkel Petterson.
The match of Alice Carreri (b. 1981) and Mikkel Petterson (b.1978) dates from 2002.
She being raised by parents traveling with the avantgarde theatre Odin Teatret, he being from a more conservatively cultivated home, they share a love for music, and especially early 20th century pop music.
The debut from 2006 showcased Alice as an elegant and versatile interpreter of Petterson's retro-inspired pop songs, yielding fine reviews and considerable radio airplay for the single "Take Another Look".
This was repeated two years later, when the album was released in Gemany.
After working on seperate projects they are now together again
on the new album, simply entitled Alice Sings The Petterson Songbook #2.
Once again it's a musical world inspired by 60s/70s pop, jazz and music hall, but generally the sound is more modern - and bigger too.
If the first album was a stylish cocktail party we are now attending a ball at the ambassadeur!
Alice Sings The Petterson Songbook #2 is generously melodious pop, not running after any trends but speaking to its listener's heart, head and feet; with good spirits rather than mania, gentle sadness rather than dark melancholy, with catchy hooks and classic beauty.
The album entitled 'Alice Sings The Petterson Songbook #2' is released in Denmark and for download on September 19.
