During a conversation with Frank J. Oteri for NewMusicBox filmed by Alexandra Gardner and edited by Molly Sheridan, Paul Dresher describes one of his most unusual creations—Schick Machine, an immersive poly-sensory experience that might best be described as a cross between installation art and experimental musical theater. Created expressly for percussionist Steven Schick, Schick Machine has no score per se, but rather is a vast assortment of instruments invented by Dresher which offer a variety of unique sonic possibilities.
