Not only one of the great living links in the lineage of original, border-busting Texas rock & roll, Alejandro Escovedo is also one of it's foremost modern practitioners. Touring in recent years with fellow legends like Bruce Springsteen and John Prine, Escovedo's blended the punk-rock roots of his early days with The Nuns and the True Believers in with everything from confessional folk to glam rock to the Tex-Mex rock hybrids of his old San Antonio hometown. He's been on a particular roll as a recording artist lately, knocking out critically acclaimed records every couple of years including 2009's Real Animal, which included this propulsive ode to the old punk days "Chelsea Hotel '78".
