THE STORY BEHIND THIS SONG AND VIDEO:

Fast Romantics got it’s start in Calgary, Alberta. But our band soon moved to Toronto, and we had to leave the town most of us had grown up in. After a couple years of bleeding members, the band almost fell apart, only myself and Jeff our bass player remained. We decided to rebuild the band from scratch, adding four incredible humans to our gang and fundamentally changing our sound and our makeup. It really was a whole new band, with the same name.

On this new record, I’d written a song on the record called “Alberta” which was a song about the emotional pain of leaving my hometown of Calgary, leaving my friends and family behind, and dealing with the passing of one of the closest friends that I had left behind there.

Touring on that new record this past April, we came through Calgary and had a day off. We connected with a friend who knew his way around a film camera, and Jeff and I wandered the city with the new members of our band to show them where we cut our teeth.

A lot of that teeth cutting took place in a legendary bar called the Ship and Anchor Pub. The ship is very dear to us both and to so many people who grew up in Calgary. We set up shop that day and played the tune in the ship a few times, wandered the city all day, connected with my old man and Jeff's parents, and then came back to the ship that night to connect with a few friends, including the founding former guitar player of Fast Romantics Matthew Kliewer, who remains a close friend.

During van rides over the rest of the tour, I patched together the footage, which was a really cathardic, emotional process. The resulting video is an attempt at honouring the town Jeff and I grew up in, and founded the band in.
