OLD BARN
(Ollikainen/Maher)
And the old barn kept on burning and the night flames jigged their dance
The little silhouettes tried their best but they never really stood a chance
And the first of the men to surrender slowed and gathered around
To hear the sizzling and the crackling and the dry bones snapping
As the fire burned the old barn down
And the little boy who found the matches and an iddy biddy place to play
Had long since fled with eyes o'dread crying as he ran away
You gotta run little rabbit run boy run run till you run no more
And keep your mouth shut when the knot in your gut
Makes you think you been caught you’re caught now
Then the powers that be started pointing and the town folk did the same
Threw the last bucket taken from the water in the lake and started looking for somebody to blame
The women brought some good eating and the landlord brought some wine
A stranger passing through said ‘How do you do' and they said ‘You'll do fine just fine’
And the old barn kept on burning and the town folk wandered home
The little boy returned with shirt slightly burned
And the wisdom that he earned from the lesson that he learned.
You got to run little rabbit run boy run run till you run no more
And keep your mouth shut when the knot in your gut makes you think you been
Don't you think you been
Makes you think you been caught
