Metaphonics at the New Melody Tavern, Seattle 1989 - Video
PUBLISHED:  Sep 24, 2013
DESCRIPTION:
Metaphonics was an art/performance band using instruments sculpted from scrap metal and costumes made from recycled materials. Jon Zucker, a metal sculptor in Seattle, founded the band in the early 1980's using percussion and string instruments he designed and built. Later members Adam Griffen and John Hawkley also contributed instruments. The largest version of the band had 6 percussionists and 3 dancers, but soon evolved into a 6-person unit with everyone playing, and occasionally doing choreographed movement for certain performances. The group played at festivals, in clubs and galleries, an art museum, and at universities in Seattle and Vancouver. The music was both composed and improvised. This video is a later performance at the New Melody Tavern (now the Tractor) in Seattle in 1989. Members at this time were Jon Zucker, Adam Griffen, Deanna Holden, Jano, John Hawkley, and Rob Angus.
