Gibson GA-40 Clone Guitar Amp "the Grinder" by LeonC - Video
PUBLISHED:  Nov 12, 2013
DESCRIPTION:
I made this clone of the mid-50s Gibson GA-40 amplifier, which featured two 5879 sharp cut-off pentodes up front, a 12AX7, a pair of cathode-biased 6V6s and a 5Y3 rectifier. I've added a boost switch which eliminates some of the additional filtering that was part of the original pre-amp circuit and boosts the gain in a very subtle way.

I also built the 1x12 finger-jointed pine cabinet that it's housed in; it's loaded with an Eminence Swamp Thang.

As in almost all of my recent videos, the guitar is plugged straight into the amp. The amp's output is fed to my wet rig on its way to the speaker. The dry speaker is miced with a Pot-o-Fone ribbon mic and is panned left. The wet signal is miced with a Shure SM57 and panned right.
