DESCRIPTION:
For Martin Luther King, Jr., "God Rest His Soul" written By Gregg Allman and recorded by The 31st of February in Hialeah, FL, Sept 1968:
[please correct any mistakes]
David Brown - bass
Scott Boyer - rhythm guitar
Butch Trucks - drums
Duane Allman - lead guitar [also rhythm?]
Gregg Allman - lead vocals

This was actually recorded by the 31st of February, with Duane & Gregg as "guests"...as they almost joined the group. They recorded a full album of demos, which I think is an incredible LP on its own. Story has it that Gregg left once again to go to LA to finish his contractual obligations to the for a 3rd Hour Glass LP on Liberty Records, who adored Gregg and completely missed the fact that the greatest guitar player ever, Duane, had been standing right in front of them the entire time.
Gregg had written this before the 31st of February sessions during the original Hourglass days. A sans-Duane Hourglass demo appeared on the CD re-issue of "Power of Love"---
After the ABB got huge, weasel record companies, such as "Bold" released the recordings as "Duane and Gregg Allman". What a slap that must've been to all, but especially Butch Trucks, Scott Boyer & David Brown, who had worked very hard on their band's career....and almost had DA & GA in the band! It wasn't meant to be...because we were all meant to experience the Allman Brothers Band.
I have actually inquired with some "higher ups" to see if this could be re-packaged and re-released as "The 31st of February!
