Transistor - In Circles Orchestral Remix | Laura Platt - Video

DESCRIPTION:
Transistor's soundtrack has been on my list of music to work on for a really long time, and I ended up choosing this track above all others because of the incredibly interesting way more unusual time signatures are used. Having thoroughly enjoyed Bastion's soundtrack too, I was expecting some great stuff from Darren Korb anyway, but the music in this game still absolutely blew me away. I seriously recommend checking out Transistor's soundtrack - or better yet, the game itself - if you haven't before. You won't regret it.

As well as being quite a test of my general arrangement and technique, working on this track was a real crash course on writing drum lines and getting them to sound as realistic as possible. With most other instruments, writing arrangements can be a lot easier based on how the artist composes the original track. With percussion, that gets a lot more difficult as you're forced to create completely original patterns to distinguish your arrangement from the original, in addition to making it playable! As someone that has never played drums in my life, and with a track that uses 5/4 and 6/4 (two fairly offbeat and uniquely challenging time signatures), this somehow managed to end up a lot more fun than I had originally thought. For a comparison of the level of progress that I feel like I made, the original pattern I came up with for the track is used in the introduction before most other instruments come in. Getting all the way to writing the much more intense parts has taken me a lot of time, but I feel like the payoff has been especially satisfying as a result. As usual, I hope you all enjoy it!
