DESCRIPTION:
The year was 2001. Back then people used their cell phones to actually make calls, Facebook didn't exist yet, and the Lakers were smack in the middle of their back-to-back-to-back championships.
The KROQ Weenie Roast, meanwhile, was less than 10 years old (the first Weenie Roast was in 1993), but had already established itself as one of the premier concert events of the year. The 2001 lineup included Jane's Addiction, Blink-182, Stone Temple Pilots, Linkin Park, Coldplay, and many more.
The 2001 Weenie Roast also featured 311, who had broken out a few years earlier with their self-titled album and had grown into one of the biggest acts of the era. They were so popular, in fact, that they were able to get then LA Lakers center Shaquille O'Neal to fly in via helicopter for a surprise appearance just one week after winning the NBA Championship.
