DESCRIPTION: This is the first installment of my solo guitar series. I intend to release a few of these a month. Berimbau was first introduced to me by Zé Luis Oliveira a long time ago during one of my first rehearsals with the Zé Luis Quartet. This is my solo rendition of Baden Powell and Viinicius De Moraes' classic, Berimbau. As far as the arrangement is concerned it was all improvised. I usually play it in D minor but I wanted the low e so I changed the key to C# minor before recording the video. I enjoy learning tunes and simply improvise over the structure without working out an official "chord melody." Every take was different. Spontaneity allows for some interesting directions.
