DESCRIPTION:
This is one of the featured songs off of my new (soon to be out on my website) album "Button Me Up" and was written about mountaintop removal mining in the Appalachians -- horrible, useless stuff, with very little gain for the amount of sheer destruction it causes (much like the now popular idea of natural gas drilling... ugh!).
The footage here comes from an old movie, made in 1969, about the struggle of a town against strip mining... so you can see how old this type of problem has been in the region and how little has been done about it.
You'll be able to download the new album that'll have this song on it in high quality MP3 for free at my website very soon: http://www.jakewildwood.com

Lyrics:
Lord what a thing
Mankind has done
They brought my
Mountain down
Tomorrow they'll take it
Away by train
They brought my
Mountain down
When I was a lad
I ran in her woods
They brought my
Mountain down
And my sweetheart and I
Kissed at her peak
They brought my
Mountain down
Her blood is black
In her tumbling stream
They brought my
Mountain down
They burned her heart
To drive their steam
They brought my
Mountain down

You're hearing an old 1971 Martin D12-20 guitar, 1930s Regal archtop guitar, and a fun old Japanese electric bass on this recording.

Democracy Now has a number of stories, interviews, etc. about mountaintop removal mining and especially Massey Energy's abuse of the local folks, so if you're wanting to get educated quickly head that way.
