Part 5 of our 2.5-hour interview with North Launceston rapper CAINE, who has generated a musical buzz around himself with a quality string of three debut singles ("Ruthless Northerner", "Ruled These Streets" and most recently the heartfelt "Addicted") released on Greeley's THCtv over the last 12 months. Prior to music, CAINE had a very difficult childhood and adolescence that led to a troubled adulthood, characterised by significant stay's in Tasmania's only Youth Juvenile Justice Centre known as "Ashley's" (male & female combined) as well as the state's only adult male medium to maximum prison "Risdom Prison Complex" just north of Hobart. Caine reflects on his structural disadvantages, some bad luck, the importance of family, personal decisions, drugs, prison riots, abuse, mental health challenges, violence, being a father, and ultimately redemption. A fraction of his story shows the brutal realities of years in crime and lost time - with fortunately for him now a positive future forward with these parts of his life now and well and truly behind him as he attempts to influence young people flirting with the justice system and lead them down a different and much more positive life path.
