One from the archives... This song is taken from the Pointy Records release "Songs from a Dazzling Drift", an album that came out in late 2005. It was my first release since the demise of my first band, Great Days of Sail, which went out on a high note after an EP and shows supporting Joanna Newsom, Willy Mason and the Magic Numbers. Despite this being obviously home-recorded and messy, John Kennedy at Xfm got behind the songs and had me on for live sessions a few times. I'd listened to his show, Xposure, throughout my late teens - it was hard to believe I was in his studio near Soho (my boozy base of operations!). The critics were also pretty nice:
"His playfully eccentric lyrics about life's small moments, plucked acoustic guitar and rollicking rhythms suggest a less ramshackle Badly Drawn Boy or a better adjusted E from Eels... This could be the start of something major" -- ****, Q Magazine, "Q Recommends"
"Immediately likeable and with the unerring ability to bring a smile to the lips of any music fan... Perfectly constructed lyricism... With any luck, this is just a taster of what's to come" -- The Word Magazine
"Yo Zushi's folk songs have earned him plenty of high-profile fans around the world and this, his debut LP, looks certain to raise the bar even higher. A masterclass in storytelling" -- Dazed & Confused
"The spirit of Bob Dylan for the 21st century" -- Mary Anne Hobbs, BBC Radio 1
All songs on this album were written by me, Yo Zushi, and produced by Greg "Amazing" Box at his mum's house.
