DESCRIPTION: At Banjar Bale from Peliatan, on the east side of Jalan Cok Gede Rai, women's gamelan orchestra from the village are playing music to honour the divinities living in the opposite temple. A group of five young girls are dancing observed by the villagers dressed with ceremonial clothes. People were constantly moving, either going to pray at the temple on the other side of the road or enjoying watching the dances at Banjar Bale, the community place where they gather for attending social activities. After the dance of the girls I Made Karyana appears on the stage. Made performs Topeng Monyer dance. Topeng masks survive from the 16th century. In this dance I Made Karyana portrays a young noble man with sweet manners. Observe the genius of the master dancer, despite the mask covering the face, how well his body expresses the feeling of that sad man crying, probably because a disappointing love affair.
