Lyrics:

[Verse 1]
Below the kirk, below the hill
Below the lighthouse top
Setting sail towards a most vile of fates
Towards the lands of mist and snow

Mast high glaciers came floating by
Ship hemmed inside this maze of ice
Guided through the fog by albatross
The victim to my crossbow shot

[Verse 2]
Idle as painted ship, upon painted oceans
The waves thickened and the sea was rotting
As my men suffered through their parched throats
The waters burned with bright deathly fires

Creatures haunt me for my mistake
Dreams of spirits from the unfathomable deep
Tailing me from the site of my sin
So brandish me with the carcass of my victim

[Chorus 1]
Around my neck hangs the subject of my shame
Weighing down my pompous head in agony
What tragedy have I selfishly brought?
Upon both myself and my damned company
This foolishness that I have wrought
Burdens me like the corpse of an albatross
This cruelty to creatures of land, sky and sea
Shall forever mark me as my worst enemy

[Verse 3]
Gazing westward, Unable to speak
Bite down on my arm till I bleed
Moisten my throat. Yell out to the world
Salvation may lie with the sails where sky meet sea

Misplaced smiles spread across my hull
Until the skeletal ship is clear in vision
Spectres begin to play with their dice
With but three whistles the sun sinks into the horizon

[Chorus 2]
Around my neck hangs the subject of my shame
Weighing down my pompous head in agony
What tragedy have I selfishly brought?
Upon both myself and my damned company
As the moon emerges chased by a sole star
My brothers of the sea fall one by one
Cursed by the anguished looks in their dying eyes
Their souls burden me like the corpse of an albatross

[Solo]

[Bridge]
All my prayers deterred by wicked whispers
As my heart becomes as dry as dust
Bless these creatures that I have wronged
The corpse upon my neck sinks into the deep like lead

[Chorus 3]
Free of the curse that burdened me
A host of spirits enters the crew's bodies
Singing spirits of the blessed guide my sail
Pushed along by creatures of the perilous deep
I have yet served penance for my crime
Thus more penance is due before it is rectified
Over yonder are the kirk, the hill and lighthouse top
A sight for the sore eyes of this ancient mariner
My guilt may never leave me be
So listen close and learn from my story
Show compassion to all that inherit the land
And you'll become a sadder but wiser man
This foolishness that I had wrought
Burdens me like the corpse of an albatross
My mistakes shall haunt me for eternity
Forever marking me as my own worst enemy
