Aoshima (青島) is a tiny island located in Miyazaki. It is surrounded by unique rock formations referred to as the devil's washboard (鬼の洗濯板 - Oni no Sentakuita).

Black Stream - Kuroshio, the warm ocean current streams up from Okinawa and the Pacific reach the Japanese mainland at Aoshima imparting a subtropical jungle of green and luxuriant plants covering Aoshima.

Aoshima Jinja stands at the centre of the island.

Aoshima is only 860m around and about 4.4 hectares wide, and the highest point is at the level of 6m. It is only about 200m off from the mainland, so a bridge connects the island and the mainland. There are over 200 kinds of plants, and 27 of them are tropical plants. Especially, the large community of Chinese fan palm is precious.
