The Wilson Brothers began performing Bluegrass Gospel at young ages, mostly in their church in Galletin County, Kentucky. Curnie (Born in 1943) began singing the lead vocals with his brother Russell (Born in 1945) on the high lonesome tenor. One day, Ralph Stanley met the Wilson Brothers and requested that they sing a few on stage. They agreed, and Ralph introduced them as "Give a big hand to Curnie and Russell. The Wilson Brothers." Ever since then, the name stuck and Curnie and Russell began performing professionally in the early 70s. By 1974, they had a band of their own called "The Wilson Brothers And The Bluegrass Harvesters," which consisted of Curnie on guitar, Russell on bass, Denver Jones on banjo, and Lonnie Bolin on lead guitar. By this time, The Wilson Brothers were on the main Bluegrass circuit, but they stuck strictly with Bluegrass Gospel. In 1980, their most famous recording was made entitled "Lonesome Old Home" on the Vetco label (now reissued on cd by Crosscut Records) which became the song of the year in 1998 by IBMA. By 1984, The Wilson Brothers had 6 albums to their credit and decided to retire from the professional business to tend to families (Although they still perform selected shows.) Fans recall three things that made them enjoy The Wilson Brothers the most: Their beautiful suits, their limousines, and the smooth harmony they had along with their music. They both continue making Kentucky their home today. They are considered by many "The greatest brother harmony since the Stanley Brothers."
