William McAuren or Mac Amhrán, translated “Son of Song” as Gaeilge, was justly named such as he has vehemently pursued a life of music. This singer/songwriter from Gainesville, GA found his intoxicating, soulful sound with inspiration from classic old country, blues, American, Irish folk and even the Irish language, Gaeilge, which he incorporates in his songs on occasion.
Listening to William, the world may seem as if in slow motion. His low, continuous vocals evoke images of a world where people take the time to enjoy life’s little pleasures. His melodic rhythms will send you into a trans-like, hypnotic state, as it is difficult not to be swept away by his comforting sound. Almost father-like, William’s voice is soothing and reassuring in a time of political and social chaos and confusion.
Painting stories with his songs, William will have you reflecting on the past, present and future, whether these thoughts are warm or perhaps a little painful. Inspired by his own experiences of love, life, God, politics and seclusion, William easily connects to a broad range of listeners.
William has been writing songs since 14, for a period, under the name “The Hopelite,” a Greek soldier in a Phalanx. The image of a soldier certainly captures the singer/songwriter as his voice is powerful, his guitar is thundering and his lyrics, emotionally charged.
With his old band, Any Given Moment, William recorded one EP. Since then he has recorded The Sun and the Stars Have the Same Song in July 2007 and Worth the Rain in December 2007 in Charlotte, NC. William has performed at small venues including coffee shops and bars, but hopes to one day make a living off his music.
