William Reid owned and bred Uncle Sam who won the Caulfield Cup twice and ran third in the Melbourne Cup. He also won the Memsie Stakes and the Toorak Handicap. The William Reid Stakes at Moonee Valley was named after him and has been won by some great champions over the years including Manikato, Vo Rogue, Miss Andretti and Black Caviar.
