Another year, another Spring Sing. Having dethroned Phi Psi the year before, in 2004 Sarah, Kathleen and I were out not just to beat them again, but to clobber them. As it turned out, we wiped the floor clean with everyone. (Phi Psi again performed directly after us, this time to their peril -- they didn't place and won no awards.)

Our team was much smaller than the previous year as the YMCA substituted Ross Hall with an African-American fraternity ... of which there was one active member on campus (a basketball player) ... who declined to take part. We also lost much of our previous year's team to transfers, moving off campus and Greek recruitment.

We knew we could win with a smaller group (the harmonies would be tighter and sound better, if we could get our volume loud enough). We also had more room to move about the stage.

We also knew singing well would be key -- which is why we petitioned from Day One to apply the Greek alum rule (any person who at one point or time lived in a house as a student can compete with the team, whether or not they are currently a student or still live in the house) to ResCo out of competitive parity.

The YMCA agreed. We sprung Farhan on everyone unexpectedly. And ... we know how that turned out.

Natch. =)

P.S. -- And a HUGE thanks to our amazing musicians -- Molly and Angel -- who stepped up and created all of that amazing music you hear us singing to.
