His younger brother is West Coast Rapper Yung Bruh. Kam made his debut as M.C. Cam, with the independent 12" single "My Daydream" and the buttery B-side "Can U Feel It?" on Waterwheel Records in 1989. Both songs tell of his aspirations in Hip Hop and struggles with the music industry.

The single was produced by his long-time collaborative mentors, Watts Up Productions!.

Soon after, Kam hooked up with DJ Pooh and landed a solo joint called "Every Single Weekend" on the platinum selling movie soundtrack "Boyz in the Hood". Kam is a long-time Registered Member of the NOI. He (along with Public Enemy) introduced Ice Cube to the Theology and gave Ice Cube the haircut which would later become a legend; removing Ice Cube's infamous Jherri Curl! Kam began working with Ice Cube and appeared on "Color Blind" on Ice Cube's 1991 multi-platinum selling "Death Certificate" album.

Kam's lead single "Peace Treaty" in 1993 was a tribute to the Los Angeles gang truce just a year before. His albums have failed to have commercial success, often sited for his strong political message and religious views. In addition to his solo albums (mostly produced by DJ Pooh, DJ Battlecat, and Torcha Chamba), Kam has also appeared on "Get the Fist Movement" by DJ Pooh, Saafir's "Hit List" LP, "Still More Bounce" by DJ Battlecat, Paris's "Pistol Politics" LP, Sly Boogy's "Beauty of Death" mixtape, a collabo with Los Angeles/NYC rapper Born Allah, his most popular hit "Whoop Whoop!" from DJ Pooh's "Bad Newz Travels Fast" LP, and a very rare collabo mixtape he did with his brother Yung Bruh and Jasiri X called "Fruit Pruno".

Kam has a brief appearance in the movie "3 Strikes" by DJ Pooh. He is one of the jail inmates in orange jumpsuit.
He also has a cameo in "It's A CT Experience: DVD Files" by Crazy Toones.
Kam briefly was a member of the group War Zone. A group consisting of Kam, MC Eiht, and Goldie Loc. Tha War Zone was put together by Snoop Dogg while he was President at Priority Records in attempts to get some of his favorite MC's proper record contracts and compensation.
However, Tha War Zone album was never released.

Kam was a guest panelist (speaker) at "Return of the Mecca" 2015 Hip Hop Exhibition in Los Angeles, California (along with Self Scientific and a few other artists.

Kam's latest project is called "Mutual Respect". It is a collaborative project to promote the Unity between Blacks and Latinos. The album features appearances by Kurupt, Mr. Criminal, Down, Rose Gold, Legendary West Coast Producer DJ Battlecat, and many others.
