Indigenous - Things We Do - drum cover - Video
PUBLISHED:  Jan 01, 2014
DESCRIPTION:
Indigenous is called a blues-rock group but I think their music is very unique. It was originally a family of two brothers, Mato Nanji (Maiari) ('mah-TOE non-GEE' vocals and guitar, born 1974), Pte ('peh-TAY' bass guitar), their sister, Wanbdi ('wan-ba-DEE' drums, vocals), and their cousin, Horse (percussion). These Nakota Nation members grew up on South Dakota's Yankton Indian Reservation, where their father, Greg Zephier, also a musician in The Vanishing Americans band, became a spokesperson for Native American rights. Indigenous's latest album is called Vanishing Americans, a tribute to his dad and band.

This is the title song from their first album, Things We Do. I really like Wanbdi's drumming, she's very solid and has a great groove, her shuffles are also very smooth. Unfortunately this line up broke up in 2006, only Mato Nanji is still in the band. Wanbdi has been doing a project with her sister Yellow Thunder Woman called Tone Def Sirens which looks and sounds pretty cool. If you're having trouble getting a smooth groove going study her and their first few albums, her style is a great addition to any drummers repertoire.

As this song says, It said it should have never been this way....so true.
