Early in 2004, a group of musicians with a mutual respect for the talent of one another decided to join together and create something a little different. Different because it blended so many genres and bent the rules just enough to make the sound fresh without isolating the musician from the casual listener. A hybrid of talent, skill, and background working to form a sound that can be described as nothing less than a hybrid itself. After some shifting of members* until mid 2005, the pieces were in place, and although the name "vilejive" had been there since the beginning, it fit perfectly to this new sound. Vilejive was truly reborn a new entity. Now the word 'genre' means nothing to the music that was and will continue to be manifested by these musicians. An intellegent, energetic, and groovy mix of improvisation, complex structure, blended with the chord progessions & melodies of jazz, reggae, funk, and a little techno are all topped off with a dose of metal to birth an aural experience that is both novel and powerful. Since 2006 they have been making their mark, performing regularly in the Bowling Green area as well as Nashville, Louisville, and Cincinnati. They have shared the stage with nationally and internationally touring acts such as Tubring, Look What I Did, and local pals Cage the Elephant. Vilejive's full length debut "Abnegation of Hierarchy", recorded and mixed by David Barrick at Barrick Studio, Glasgow Ky, was released in July of 2007 after 7 months of anticipation. The members of vilejive include Tony Oswald, Shelby Smith, Matt Devore, Brad Ausbrooks, and Eric Curtis.
