"Our lives are different, but we have so much in common."
This is the theme which runs through Veronica's songwriting. "I try to write songs as the listener. The musicians and songwriters who have most inspired me have also taught me to tell a good story through my music." These influences include artists such as Joni Mitchell, Natalie Merchant, Ani DiFranco, and so many more. Like Veronica, these artists share that rare gift of the ability to craft a musical hook which entertains joined with an emotional journey that gives the listener insight into the lives of both the songwriter and the listener themselves.
Veronica expressed her passion for music early on. She started singing at age 7, took classical voice lessons, sang in choirs until she was 18, and then became the front girl of her first band, The Innocents. In recent years she's played and sang back-up for Dick Sims, B3 player for Eric Clapton and Bob Seger, Dee Dee O'Malley, and Mitch Mercoulier.
Originally from Saddle Brook, NJ, Veronica has lived in Miami, New York City, and now Los Angeles. Her travels through a variety of locales and cultures, from the Latin inflected Miami, to the musical grab bag of NYC and finally the sun kissed West Coast have given her music a joyous power tempered by truths learned through experience. Her songs deal with everyday life, family, relationships gone bad (and good) in other words, personal topics we all can relate to.
_______Press Release_____
Los Angeles, CA - Accomplished singer/songwriter Veronica Puleo and MMI records have finally decided to release an album of her beautiful and detailed songwriting. It has been a long time coming, and Read Between the Lives will be released nationally to long awaited anticipation on September 17, 2007. Read Between the Lives is an insightful independent folk/rock album about the various transitions that Veronica has made throughout her life and about her taking the time to assess the many changes. "My life has been so full that sometimes I feel that I have lived a dozen lifetimes. This album is about confrontation, reconciliation and finding my way through fresh eyes for the life ahead", states Veronica.
A proud native of Saddle Brook, NJ located fifteen minutes outside of New York City, and singing since the age of seven, Veronica packed her bags 8 years ago to bring her talent and love of music to Los Angeles. "L.A. was instantly home for me. It was one of my major rebirths. The electricity of this city, the musicians I have met, and the opportunities for me to really do my music full-time were such a pull for me".
The first single to be released from Read Between the Lives is "Rearview Mirror" a song that Veronica thinks everyone will relate to. "It is about looking at your life backward…the years in review. The message of the song is living your life to the fullest and looking back to be sure you have cleaned up the messes that you have made".
Having given this first release a lot of thought, Veronica Puleo's talent, beautiful voice, and gift of songwriting is sure to resonate in the minds of many new fans. She also has a few very accomplished and accredited musicians that she shares her musical space with. Philip Bynoe who played guitar with famous rocker Steve Vai for many years, gifted guitarist Morgan Lewis, Matty Spindal (Engineer), who won a Grammy for Santana's "Supernatural" back in 1999, and her producer Jeff Gross who has worked with Rick Springfield and E.G. Daily. Read Between the Lives was mastered by Nancy Matter, who has worked with The Who, Peter Gabriel and Ray Charles.
Being of Sicilian heritage Veronica has also included the traditional Sicilian Folk song to her album. Vitti Na Crozza will make you want to do a Tarentella in your living room, but dancer beware, you will be grooving to a lyrically morbid tune. If you would like a translation, Veronica explains the song on her MySpace site. This album is not only a wonderful amalgamation of feeling and heart; it is an album worth purchasing for any collection of music. Veronica Puleo is a talent to be reckoned with and is sure to be around for a long time.
