THIS IS A TRIBUTE PAGE TO VERN PULLENS Vern Pullens ( I.V.Pullens ) was born March 9, 1931 & raised in Bogalusa, Louisiana, He began his music career on September 27th 1956 when he recorded the monster 2-sider "Bop Crazy Baby/It's My Life" for Doyle Jone's Spade Records out of Houston, Texas. He was bought to the label by B.J. Johnson & signed by their representative Bennie Hess,, the first session, recorded at KTRH studio's also produced the originally unissued "Mama Don't Allow No Boppin'" a song that first surfaced when Bennie Hess reactivated the label in the 70's, A second single was issued in the 50's "Would You Be Happy/It Took One Moment" it was then after re-newed intererst in his career Vern recorded "Rock On Mabel/Long Gone", Vern also cut sides for Pappy Daily's D label "Country Boys Dream/What I Am To Do", in the 60's he cut country sides for Hack Kennedy's BIG HOWDY, STOP, & later his own SUN DOWN label which produces a top 20 single with "Breaker Breaker" Vern cut a killer session in 1978 the "Rock-It' label which produced his 45 You Don't Mean To Make Me Cry/Jitterbuggin Baby" this session featured legendary sidemen Marcus Van Story on Bass, Al Hopson on Guitar, Jerry Lee Smith on Piano, other cuts from this session including a Killer version of Huey Long's "Elvis Stole My Baby" along with a superior re-cut of "Rock On Mabel, later surfaced on a 12" 45RPM EP on Rockhouse Records from Holland. Vern died July 19,2000 ( cancer ).
