This shocking footage shows the moment a cyclist was knocked off his bike and then being attacked by a furious van driver.

Recorded on the cyclist's helmet camera, footage begins by showing a van driving alongside the bike on the road.

A voice - believed to be the cyclist - can be heard shouting "get off the phone you muppet."

The van then steers close to the cyclist who is then shown being knocked over.
After the clip was posted on YouTube, Essex Police tweeted: "We're aware of a YouTube video of a cyclist being assaulted and would advise the victim to contact police on 101 so it can be investigated."

An Essex Police spokesman told the Mirror that the incident may have happened outside their area - in Hornchurch which is covered by the Met Police.

However, he added: "We would urge the victim to contact police on 101."

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said they required more information before they could investigate.
