In October 2010, the Berlin State Opera will be renovated, during a 3 years estimated period. With that, a chapter in the history of this building will be coming to a close and something new can begin.

Even for many of the employees behind the scenes, moving to the Schiller theatre will be dramatic.
Not only will the building be renovated, but also the theatre management will be undergoing a change.
The technical department comprising almost 100% East German employees will be renewed. Many colleagues will be retiring.

The fall of the Berlin Wall 1989 and the German Reunification in 1990 was a seismic event in European history and for its 20th anniversary provides a good occasion with our documentary to take a look at the cultural, technical and human development of the Berlin State Opera through the eyes of its employees, before and after the German reunification.

The last season begins in the old house in September 2009 and the moving boxes will be packed in June 2010.
