Fascinating trivia section:
This is a promotional copy, issued to radio stations in the bad old days when radio stations played music from records instead of from the suggested Arbitron-supplied format. In some cases these would be given away for promotional purposes -- in 1978 concerts were a loss-leader for album sales, just the opposite of the situation today, so boosting sales was the prime directive.
The retail release of the US version of the album omitted "Billy Hunt" and substituted "The Butterfly Collector." This US promo copy retains "Billy Hunt," so in terms of contents it's identical to the UK release.

The Jam's third album. The title refers to a common abbreviation in British apartment ads (all mod cons = all modern conveniences) and at the same time is a poke at the suits who were only interested in the Mod Revival for the money to be made.
-------------------------------------------------------
This album has a real Mod/British Invasion sound, but with that little punky but thoughtful edge. I particularly enjoy the title track, and the cover of the Kinks' "David Watts." Paul Weller, the Jam's driving force, shows his softer side on "English Rose" and takes on the then-rampant phenomenon of Paki-bashing on the powerful "Down In The Tube Station At Midnight."
---------------------------------------
Overall this is a highly satisfying listen, well worth the 37 minutes or so of your time.

The video portion is me messing around with an old word game -- changing one letter at a time to transform one word into another.

If you enjoy these vinyl uploads, or even if you don't, leave a comment, ask a question, whatever.

Thanks for watching,
