Martin Newell formed the Brotherhood of Lizards with Nelson after several years of plying his trade under the name of the Cleaners from Venus. This initial album followed in the Cleaners diy cassette culture tradition of being released on home made cassette and a second album followed shortly afterwards on CD. Nelson and Martin did a UK tour deciding to travel by bicycle and camping in tents between gigs. Sadly the Brotherhood of Lizards did not really achieve the recognition they deserved. Martin Newell remains a quintessentially English cult figure as a musician, poet and author. Some of his best work as a musician is tucked away in the annals of cassette culture but it's well worth digging around for these aural treasures.
