Simon Todd performs 'The Hartley Disaster' at 'Northumbria Meets Nashville', Porters Coffee House, Tynemouth, on Friday 8th March 2013.

The song tells the story of the 1862 disaster at the Hester Pit, New Hartley, Northumberland, which sadly at the time registered the greatest loss of life from a single incident in a British mine.
