Todd Johnson Video Interview - Video
PUBLISHED:  Jan 28, 2014
DESCRIPTION:
Todd Johnson is the true definition of a bass innovator. While there are many players who are moving the instrument forward in regards to technique, Todd is making strides that are mostly musical. Mainly using the 6-string, Todd has taken the chord solo style practiced by many of the legendary jazz guitarists and moved it to the bass. This style, although familiarly structured, feels so different when played on the larger gauge strings of the bass. Todd gigs and lives in the LA area, and is the renowned author of books on mechanical technique and walking lines. In 2009, working with master bass educator Jim Stinnett, Todd released a distillation of his chord solo style in the book/DVD combo entitled Fishin' For Grips. The book is a step-by-step process towards being able to make magic out of simple methodology. Todd was happy to meet up with us at Winter NAMM 2010 to tell us how he came up, from Vegas show bands, to Ron Eschet.
