"In the Sign" began from listening to Sodom's "In the Sign of Evil" and reading Paul Ricoeur's "The Symbolism of Evil". It was a very obvious combination that made me want to begin with a very orthodox metal premise and allow it to mutate into something that no longer represented its origin. To me this album represented a classic in its genre that spilled over into further abjection in other subgenres of metal. It corrupted into the future beyond its initial sublimely feral inception.

For the past two years I have been making art based around the pentagram as an offshoot of my practice, this has resulted in sculptures, castings, laser etchings, drawings, collages and other media. All trying to escape and leave behind the reference to its ubiquity in the genre of heavy metal and both bring up its past as a true symbol for cults (i.e. Pythagoreans) and towards a new future. The audio on the cassette is composed of analog synthesizer drones using five notes each, to make this fog of dissonance that rises and dissipates, all except for the last song are 5 minutes. These should be listened to while viewing the newspaper. "
