The Very Things 'The Hole' (1993) - Video
PUBLISHED:  May 24, 2013
DESCRIPTION:
Left on a dusty shelf (along with Ken Hensley's proud words) for over twenty years, this long forgotten Very Things film 'The Hole' was finally rescued from obscurity by film maker Dominic Day on 15th May 2013. Having dusted off the rusty film canister, he proceeded to cut and splice the rushes together, with only minimal footage being left on the cutting room floor to be swept up later by Mrs Overall - (...'it's God's way uv tellin' yer 'ow much film stock you've wasted.....) The film was originally shot on silent Super-8 film in two sessions on 8th January 1992 and 12th April 1993 at 17 Stanley Close, Abbeydale, Redditch, Worcestershire, UK. The cameraman was Martin De Sey, with assistance on set from Nina Dallaway. Direction was by Robin Raymond Dallaway and the lead roles were taken by the director himself and Alice the cat. The track itself originally appeared on the first Cravats album, 'The Cravats In Toytown', released in 1980, but this version was a cover by The Very Things and appears on their second album, It's A Drug, It's A Drug, It's A Ha Ha Ha, It's A Trojan Horse Coming Out Of The Wall' (sub-titled 'American Gothic'). This 'missing' middle Very Things album was finally released in 1993, after itself remaining 'in the can on a dusty shelf' since 1985. Special thanks to Dominic Day for his 'filmwifery' skills in delivering this Very Things baby. (Dominic Day is now an honorary member of the DCL Film Unit).
