DESCRIPTION:
In his early years Dr Eric Eustace Williams T&T's first Prime Minister, attended Queens Royal College in Port-of-Spain, Williams excelled at academics and soccer which subsequently gained him a scholarship to study at St Catherine's, Oxford in 1932.Regarded as the "Father of the Nation," he served as the first Prime Minister of T&T from September 25th 1956 to March 29th 1981.
In September 1956, the PNM won the national elections constituting Trinidad and Tobago first party government. Dr. Williams, the party's political leader, became the country's first non colonial Chief Minister. In 1961 after another PNM electoral victory, he became Premier.
In 1962 Williams led the country into independence; becoming Prime Minister in the process and in 1976 declared it a Republic.
