DESCRIPTION:
"Gogs Against The Motorway" -as performed by "The North Wales Road-Gogs"

This song was written to help the cause of those good folk who are currently working so hard to make the Welsh Assembly re-think it's road transport plans. The latest is a proposed highway project that, would make the A494/A55, North Wales dual-carriageway into a vast, US style "super-highway" "across the top of Wales". From Queensferry in the east through to Anglesey and the port of Holyhead, Officials at Transport Wales are determined to push this aggressive, more-of-the-same plan through the Assembly.

Local residents along the route say road-widening on the scale envisaged is out of step with latest thinking on sustainability and climate-change -and will be of benefit only to convoys of ferry-bound trucks.
Serious concerns are being raised by the public in respect of official claims for the scheme to be environment-friendly -whilst paying scant regard to latest critical data on "carbon footprint" and sustainable infra-structure.

The song refers to, "gogs against the motorway!" Let me explain. The original, Welsh name for their stunningly scenic northern counties is "Cymru Gogledd". To generations of rugby and cricket fans (especially "Taffs" from the remote south of the country) the nick-name "gogs" is not in anyway derogatory. It's synonymous with the friendly rivalry between the two distinctive -and all too remote halves of our country. South Wales is justly famed for a tradition of sporting excellence, whilst the North is celebrated, not just as being the true, "Land Of Song" but for producing generations of incredibly intelligent and beautiful women-folk.
Thanks to the valiant efforts of the sportsmen of Plas Llan-Eurgain, Pontblyddyn and Wrecsam -we're now also catching up on the playing fields!
