KNOW YOUR RIVALS.

When you think of the state of Kentucky, the first thing that comes to mind is bluegrass music, horse racing and some damn good whiskey. But not many people know about the bluegrass state's underground music scene. and thats where Rivals come in.

Rivals formed under the surname The Shuttlecocks in the spring of 2007 as a four-piece featuring former members of Beg For Mercy and Some Gave All. In the beginning, the band was meant to be nothing serious and had no plans of being any more than a band to play one show; a talent show at their High School in which the band played two Blink 182 cover songs. but after a great crowd reaction and lots of people asking how long they had been together, a group of friends officially turned into a band.

In the spring of 2008, the band released their first album "The D.P. EP" which consisted of 7 songs and ever since they have been playing numerous shows around the state with the members sharing the stage with bands such as Kids Like Us, Death Before Dishonor, Dead Hearts, CDC, The Mongoloids, Blacklisted, etc. The single "One For The Road" was featured on Viva La Punk 2 released by Atomic Recordings later on in the year.

Along with releasing their first CD, Rivals announced the addition of a second guitarist, Coty Williamson. With the final piece to the puzzle, Rivals was ready to really let loose. With Williamson now on guitar and Danny Ocean going only on vocals they began writing music more along their roots - to the styles of With Honor, Have Heart, and Ambitions.

About 8 months after adding their second guitarist, Rivals put out a 5 song E.P. entitled "See You Sunday" which contained the more traditional hardcore/punk style. This Cd is currently being pressed and will be available for purchase soon. Just after the announcement of the new CD, Guitar Player Coty Williamson, also a member of the United States Army, was called up to do 8 months in Iraq. Rivals will wait anxiously for their comrade to return home safely. They are currently planning out a 3-week tour for his return. Until then they will go back to playing as a 4-piece.

In the summer of 2009, The Shuttlecocks started a transformation from the pop-punk band they started out as, into a more serious hardcore-esque band deriving influences from Ruiner, Kids Like Us, and many other great bands. This change brought with it the realization that this band was heading in a direction that The Shuttlecocks were not. Alas, came the name change into something more serious and fitting. With summer ahead with some great shows with awesome bands, a new album with all new songs coming soon, and a two week tour in the works for January 2010, Rivals are ready to come to your town.
