VARIOUS / SKAM - Skam Cats, Skam
Now available again without the limited fur-packaging. Two cd's (split into "Play" and "Rest") feature tracks from 22 artists (mostly unknown artists, with the exception of Mira Calix and E.Stonji) given the simple brief - to write a track based in some way around the noises made by cats. The results, as you'd imagine, are suitably crunchy and wildly varied - making this another Skam oddity, one to snap up!
Scrubber Fox ends this whole cat party with "Felonic (catnip bong mix)". From the opening jingle the clouds split and a synthetic shine, beams down from the glowing red circle in the sky as a dominating crunch fest is unleashed from the brain of Mr Fox. Squeels and squawks manage to escape from this wall of madness as the volume of the marauding monster doubles in size to cover the whole goddamn place. I would run like crazy, as this is an uncontrollable force.
Shit hot stuff from Mr Fox.
Skam Cats is a damn fine release. The range of music selected makes the 2cd an excellent batch of music to listen to and keeps your head in check by flipping the cat craziness all over the show. I sure hope we hear a lot more from the artists on this one, as there is a whole load of talent out there. Congrats SKAM on the concept and selection, and to the artists for the output, top stuff.

Scrubber Fox : Ruffled Muffle
Label: Musikexperience
Release: January 2006
Gary aka Scrubber Fox is a true music lovera genius no that's the wrong characterisation, that's not enough do describe his work. Scrubber Fox is a captain steering his (musical)ship through a rough sea without losing his destination. Sounds to pictorial or to silly?
Maybe. But it's so hard to describe this musical masterpiece. Ruffle Muffle is a wild journey through nearly every art form of electronic music but with his own brand. You must understand that every comparison with other artists or musical directions would be nearly a affront. Sick beats meet Pop, Techno, Funk and the Scrubber Fox style. Yeah Scrubber Fox, I call this style Scrubber Fox!
Beautiful music which deeply moves you with every sound. This record is so wonderful!!
Not to be missed.

Format: CD
Label: Merck
Price: £7.99 (sorry - sold out)
Next I have in my hand a double CD called 'Mergerz & Acquistionz' with 34 remixes of Machine Drum by lots of clever chaps and chapettes. Featuring the likes of Kid 606, Team Doyobi, Nautilis, Funckarma, Kettel, Proem, Acid Wolf (Flashbulb) Lackluster, Mochipet, Scrubber Fox & many more, there's something for everyone if you like it electronic and what's that. oh its the wind whistling round the tower on a blustery afternoon and it fits an absolute treat. Riffs and drum cut-ups a plenty to satisfy even the hungriest electro head. Its cool, I'm dancing.

Miami IDM label Merck have always been at the forefront of the scene, so trust them to go back to remixes at this stage in the game, maybe it's a last resort, or maybe it is their swansong, their last chance to collect tracks from the artists they love. Whatever it is, it's Machine Drum's second remix album for the label and is a huge double cd compilation. There are some great tracks peppered in amongst the filler, but I can't really tell you who they're by because I haven't got a tracklisting with this promo copy – whoops! Think dirty hiphop styles, squelchy analogue goodness and a collection of some of the best electronica left on the ailing scene. Remixers include Machine Drum, Nautilis aka Malcom Kipe, Kid 606, Bauri, Praveen, Team Doyobi, Looza & Chimerical Child, Funckarma, Acid Wolf, Eustachian, Jemapur, Mochipet, Deceptikon, Epstein, Calmer, Ginormous, Mic Mell, Landau, Proswell, Kettel, Mesak, Anders Ilar, Proem, Deru, Kschzt aka MD, Talve, Brasswork Agency, Scrubber Fox, Wake, Miles Tilmann, Crankshaft, Lackluster, Sabi, and Secede. Strictly limited to 2000 copies
You can still buy a few remaining copies of this album from: www.discogs.com
