BE HEARD!

THE SAY SOMETHING PROJECT:

Co-founded by Brooklyn natives Sha Stimuli and DJ Victorious, the Say Something Project (TSSP) is a proactive response to the unfair portrayal of Hip Hop Culture that is often represented by mainstream media. Hip Hop has recently found itself under attack by a mainstream media that sensationalizes only the most negative aspects of our culture. Real Hip Hop fans know the truth though: for every one negative aspect of Hip Hop there are three positives. The Say Something Project is an organization committed to showcasing the many positive attributes of Hip Hop and mobilizing a movement among those Hip Hop fans who cannot sit idly while the culture we love and support is misrepresented.

Mission:

The mission of the Say Something Project is to restore balance in hip hop representation by the grass roots promotion of hip hop music, artists, and organizations that use hip hop as a means to inspire and foster positive thought, awareness, and action.

The Say Something Mix Tape Series:

In line with our mission TSSP is proud to announce its very first venture. The Say Something Mix Tape Series will exclusively feature and promote music from artists – both well known and those on the rise – that have something (non trivial) to say. While we understand that all music has an audience, this mix tape series has been specifically created to celebrate hip hop artists who make an effort to drop knowledge in their music. We want to use this platform to 1) prove that there is a viable audience of hip hop enthusiast who want to hear music content that is inspiring and thought provoking; 2) give well known artists who have been the victims of mainstream media marketing campaigns a place to showcase their more socially conscious music; and 3) give upcoming artists who create music of lyrical substance a place to connect with an audience that wants to hear it.

Official Rules

All music submissions must be sent to SoWhatchuSaying@gmail.com in mp3 format to be considered.

All submissions must be made by the artist, the artist's management, or other legal representative of the artist ONLY.

All submissions must be accompanied with artist information including artist name, contact phone number, contact email address, song title and ownership info.

All proper submissions will be considered, however, final decisions regarding usage of song, track placement, etc. is at the sole discretion of The Say Something Project staff and affiliates.

By submitting your music you understand and agree that if selected, your music will be part of The Say Something Mix Tape Series and that there is no monetary compensation associated with your voluntary participation.

By submitting your music you understand and agree that if selected you will commit to becoming a featured artist on The Say Something Mix Tape series, it’s marketing and promotional materials, featured articles, and all press related materials.

Selected additions to The Say Something Mix Tape series will be made on the following (but not exclusively limited to) criteria:

Lyrical content - as stated initially The Say Something Mix Tape Series is specifically created as a promotional tool to promote and support positive lyrical content. All selected musical content must, therefore, have lyrical content in line with that mission

Public support - artists who garner any overwhelming show of support when their music is featured on the Say Something Project Myspace Page will receive extra consideration. Only public support made on the TSSP myspace page and blog comment space will affect consideration.

Only artists that are selected to participate in the competition will be contacted by a TSSP staff member. However artist can submit as many tracks as they like so long as they are in line with TSSP's mission.

TSSP’s Myspace page is dedicated to the promotion of the positive. If you like a track, then leave a comment. If you do not like a track we welcome you to make constructive suggestions regarding how the artist could improve the track. However, if you cannot be constructive we request that you remain silent. In fact, to ensure that our page remains positive, all grossly negative or inappropriate comments will be removed AND offenders of this policy will be given a warning on the first in fraction and lose TPPS friend privileges on the second infraction.

GET INVOLVED:

We are asking for you support of both the Say Something Project and the Say Something Mix Tape Series. This is how you can help:

Do the add. – One of the greatest things you can do is support the project by becoming a friend of TSSP. This way we can prove to the mainstream media, record labels, and artists around the world that we support lyrical substance.

Spread the word. – Once you've become a friend of TSSP help us get the word out by blasting a myspace bulletin inviting all your friends to check out the page. Add us to your favorites and rank our logo. One of our biggest goals is to get on the Myspace front page; we can't do this without your support.

Invite your favorite artists to join the movement and submit music. If you know a hip hop artist personally please encourage them to submit music for consideration. We are promising to go EXTRA HARD on promotions of this page which in terms means a great promotional opportunity for your favorite artists. Additionally, if you and your favorite artists have still yet to meet, post an invitation to TSSP in their comment space. We have made all of this ridiculously easy by placing prewritten invitations in our blog section. Simply copy, paste and post.

Submit recommendations. A large part of our organization is promoting the positive aspects of hip hop. If you know an artist, group, book, magazine, organization that is making a positive impact through their relationship with the hip hop culture PLEASE submit to us a recommendation and we will try our best to showcase that entity.

This is only the start.

Help us gain some momentum.
