The Overtakers

The Overtakers are Ruben Brooks, Ruth Brooks and LeRoy Williams. They come to



you live and direct straight up from Jamaica. Born in 1950, Ruben Brooks grew up in



Kingston with the legends of reggae. He drew inspiration from the same



situation that inspired popular Reggae Music recorded in the 1960s and 70s.



Bob Marley, Jimmy Cliff, Lee Scratch Perry, each whom Ruben knew personally in his



youth, encouraged him on his path towards a musical career.



The Overtakers play a style of music called Mento, it is the roots of reggae. Their



songs are all original, written and sung by Ruben Brooks. Ruth Brooks provides rhythm



and vocal harmony and Leroy Williams' adds rich and percussive bass tones and vocal



harmony. The Overtakers' music is distinctive, authentic and moving.
