Sharon Gilchrist performs mandolin, upright bass, vocals and original music.
She has performed with many great artists including Darol Anger, Scott Law, The Cascadia Yulegrass Project, The Ger Mandolin Orchestra directed by Mike Marshall, the Peter Rowan and Tony Rice Quartet, Uncle Earl, Donald Rubinstein, The Santa Fe All-Stars, Jeff Scroggins, the Bill Hearne Trio and Mary & Mars. She is currently based out of Oakland, California .
Sharon received a Bachelor's Degree in Mandolin Performance from Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee.
She teaches privately as an mandolin instructor in the Bay Area of northern California as well as on Skype.
Her teaching experience includes being on staff at the Santa Fe University of Art & Design (formerly College of Santa Fe) from 2004 through 2011. She has also taught at various camps around the United States including the Augusta Heritage Center Bluegrass Week in Elkins, West Virginia, Steve Kauffman Kamp, Mandolin Camp North and will be teaching at the Grand Targhee Bluegrass Camp in August 2012.
Keep an eye out for original music by Sharon scored for the film shorts, "Milagros" and "La Sevillana" and be sure to find a copy of "Quartet" the Rounder Records release by the Peter Rowan and Tony Rice Quartet. This album features definitive renditions of Peter's classic songs as well as notable covers by Patti Smith, Towns Van Zandt and Jimmy Martin. The album also highlights the master stylings of guitar guru Tony Rice. These two icons are accompanied by Bryn Davies (upright bass, vocals) and Sharon (mandolin, vocals).
