"[.] And on to the main event: The Mares. There has been a bit of hype generated around them but I wasn't particularly versed in their music. I must admit I think I was a bit of a convert because I loved their punchy, to-the-point grunge rock; it was ambient and encompassing. I like it when a band gets to the point quickly.



It’s nice to see a bit of grunge making it on the indie dominated scene – to be honest I’m getting over what I call the Sydney indie saturation at the moment. I have a feeling that this just may be the band to shake it all up. I look forward to seeing these guys move through the ranks."

"You can almost hear the skinny leg jeans and stripey shirts. It's wiry indie, with the necessary angles of dance and rock that some seem to think so new. But The Mares do it with some style, and with ‘New Day’ - which they explain as just one of those songs of 'new infatuation and the giddy feelings of love', which appear to show some pop traditions are appreciated by the new kids - show they can make it catchy as well. Includes the utterly splendid ‘Motherfuck’ song as well. You know the one I mean."
